The Inpatient Advantage
Sometimes patients with a life-limiting diagnosis face a medical episode or a temporary challenge in symptoms that cannot be managed in their current living situation.
The Serenity Hospice Inpatient Unit at RWJUH Hamilton was created to address these situations.
The Unit offers the combined advantages of a caring, hospice-specific environment and the clinical capabilities of a hospital to provide complex symptom management beyond the ability of a nursing care facility or home setting.
Ultimately, the Inpatient Unit goal is to effectively stop the spiral of distress, stabilize the patient, and enable a safe discharge to the patient’s previous environment.
About the Unit
Each patient’s care is under the supervision of a physician who will make rounds daily. Some other members of the Serenity Hospice care team include:
Physician on-site 24/7 overseeing care
Social Worker, available for patient and family support
Home Health Aides providing direct care 24/7
RN on-site 24/7 providing nursing care
Non-denominational chaplains to support patients and families with spiritual needs
At Your Service: Hospitality
The Serenity Inpatient Unit is designed with family and loved ones in mind. Each room is equipped with a comfortable sofa bed, enabling an attending companion to be with the patient at all times. The unit also features a kitchen area and a quiet room. A variety of foods and beverages is always available for both patients and visitors.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome to the In-Patient Unit 24 hours a day. Designated hospice free parking spots are available at the front of the building, however, from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM please use the out-patient entrance to enter and exit the building. After 8:00 PM, feel free to use the entrance adjacent to the designated parking.
