Course Description: This course is designed for Social Workers, RNs and other healthcare professionals seeking to improve their cultural competence skills when working with a diverse elderly patient population.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify key challenges in working with a diverse elderly population
2. Demonstrate cultural competence awareness as it relates to identifying appropriate interventions
3. Identify use of appropriate interviewing and helping skills and describe common missteps.
This course is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards – ASWB NJ CE Course Approval Program Provider #13. Course # 1608 from 12/06/2017 to 12/06/2019. Social workers will receive the following type and number of credit(s): Cultural Competence 1.0. Method of delivery: Face to Face. Level of Practice: Beginning to Intermediate.

Your presenter, Susan Harris, CRA, ADC, LNHA, BA, MC, is a highly-accomplished health care executive with over 23 years’ experience at the helm of several senior living facilities and home and community-based programs. She has spoken at the White House on eldercare issues and has a keen understanding of the ethical issues surrounding end-of-life care decisions and advance care planning. Ms. Harris has previously served as a consultant for CMS where she contributed to regulatory change and training of surveyors nationally on these changes. She has published articles in various industry journals, has served as a member of the Leading Age National Public Policy Congress, and has been delivering training on regulatory changes for over 20 years
